Romance readers like good stories. I like romance or romantic elements, but I'm not sure if I qualify as a romance reader. The same goes for my fiction. Romance is a part of the story, but not the main driving element. I'm sure if Vampires of the ...

Profile Information

About Me:
Author of The Rys Chronicles epic fantasy series. I live in Northern California although I was born and raised in Michigan. When not writing, I like to be outside gardening and walking my dog. I also enjoy reading. Obviously I adore fantasy, but I read a lot of nonfiction too.

Union of Renegades: The Rys Chronicles Book I

Union of Renegades is the first novel in my 4-part epic fantasy series. I offer Book I in its entirety as a free fantasy ebook at my website. And book readers can also acquire the paperback version for only $1 plus shipping.

Here's what some of my readers have had to say about my fiction:

"I Love your books! The human characters are so real, my heart really goes out to them. In good times and bad. The Rys are unlike any characters in any other fantasy books I've ever read, and believe me, I've read a few! I hope you keep them coming!!!!"

-- Teressa H., United States

"I really enjoyed the world you created and your writing style was crisp, imaginative and a pleasure to read the story."

-- Susan W., United Kingdom

"You are one of the best fiction writers."

-- Barbara S., South Africa

From the back cover:

Dreibrand Veta has killed for his country. At the frontlines of imperial expansion, he seeks to rebuild the fortune of his noble family. In his daring travels he encounters the rys, a race far more powerful than the human empire that bred him. Dreibrand cannot defy the rys Queen Onja nor defend his companion, Miranda, and her children from the wicked tyrant Queen. Desperate for help, Dreibrand and Miranda join Shan, a rys with emerging powers who plans to challenge Onja. In Shan’s pursuit of the rys throne, he exerts his magical powers, gathers his allies, and incites rebellion among Onja’s human subjects. Great wealth and power will reward the kings, warriors, and spies that align themselves with the rys pretender, but defeat could mean worse than death. Onja can imprison souls and her genocidal rage is legendary. Everything is at risk for Shan’s union of renegades.

Why fantasy series drag on and why we keep buying them

The fantasy genre thrives on multiple book series. Readers love getting into an exciting world of magic populated by great characters, and then having multiple novels with which to enjoy the experience. Publishers do a lot of printing to meet this need, but then readers often complain that promising series degenerate into meandering narratives that go no where.

Go to any online forum where fantasy books are being discussed and you will always find threads complaining about fantasy series that h… Continue

Fun exam for fantasy writers

I found this long questionnaire meant for fantasy writers. It is meant to test the worthiness of one's fantasy novel for reading. Failure means that you've created a tiresome rippoff of fantasy cliches. Happily I can say that I had to answer "yes" only once, so I think I'm doing pretty good.

The exam questions are fun to read. Go take the test.

What I like about self publishing

Self publishing is not an easy road for book authors, but it has the great advantage of being an open road instead of a closed road. Self publishing is a toll road because you will have to pay to produce your own work. Whether self publishing leads an author to disappointment or satisfaction depends on the person and the works being produced.

Like most authors, I started self publishing with grandiose dreams of success. I still have those dreams but operate within modest realities. Since I bega… Continue

Get you fantasy site featured at the Fantasy Tavern

Hello Wonderlands friends,

One of the websites I operate is the Fantasy Tavern. It's mostly to promote my fantasy books, but it also includes book reviews and access to my fantasy-theme video collections at YouTube. It's not a huge source of traffic but it gets a steady stream of visitors interested in fantasy.

Every two weeks on the home page I feature a genre-related website. Fantasy, science fiction, horror, romance, and their various subgenres qualify for the feature, which is free. To app… Continue

Thanks, Tracy. The rest of those chapters are around hoping that there will be someone fool enough to buy the books! Others are not quit done. Lodestone should be finished in draft by Christmas and I am currently redrafting a novella, 'Crookhorn'. They are all set within the continent of Takrann. I completed a short story a couple of days ago and although I hope it works as a standalone it also helps me with the timeline of the whole world. Gulp!
