HBO are no strangers to graphic sex. The scenes in the first episode of 'Rome' nearly put me off for life. But yes, I think it's uncalled for at least 99.99% of the time. There may be the odd exception, but normally it adds nothing to the plot, and…
I think we need both. I do need time to myself, and I get it on the allotment, when I'm out shopping, or sometimes lying awake in bed. At the same time we need other people to try ideas on, or to critique our work. If you can find a creative writing…
It's all very uncritical. I got halfway through her first novel, and got bored. It was some time ago, and I don't remember much, except that she was using cliffhangers that relied on her character being knocked unconscious in much the same fashion t…
I've seen some poor but convincing film. Whatever it was, it moved like a smallish big cat (ie puma not lion), and it wasn't any of our normal fauna. There's a lot of country in the UK which would be good for them, and they're shy and hard to see. T…
A century ago there was a convention that royalty (who were obviously real) might appear in novels, but shouldn't be named. I used to have an old copy of Erskine Childers' 'Riddle of the Sands'. In it, the MC glimpses a figure 'who, in Germany, had…
I saw it years ago in Scotland, but it was just a glow, I was too far south to see it well. I used to see nacreous clouds quite often winter climbing up there; they're stratospheric ice clouds that glow like mother-of-pearl. Once I saw a solar halo…
I like reading, writing (fantasy and historical fiction, lots of academic stuff on the reading front), gardening, beekeeping, theology and ancient coins.
thank you.
I'm sorry, I just read english, I don't write it (or so bad). But I'm glad to join and read all of you.

I'm a while away from putting anything up there, but I will be trying to read what's out there. Thanks for making me feel so welcome on my first jaunt, Robert.
Sometimes that's exactly what your work needs, another set of eyes, you just have to cherry pick what you can use. I know it made a difference to me when I did a creative writing course not so long ago. Having to read my stories or vignettes out loud to others certainly concentrated my mind. Got a piece placed in EDF on the back of that course, so it obviously did something!
Have just joined Authonomy myself. Nothing up yet. Have heard good things about the site. Is it worth joining? I'll be sure to take a look at your WIP when I next make a jaunt there.
Hi Robert,
Thanks for the welcome. I hope I will enjoy it here. I'm a bit new to places like this on the web so forgive my ignorance.
As for your question, I'm writing a bit of both really, though I have just finished an outline of a dark fantasy novel called One for Sorrow that's taking up a bit of my time. What about yourself? You had any luck?
