Myself, I am a terrible and slow typist. Freehand writing is much faster, and if I ever get the kids moved out of the house for some quite I'll get software to dictate my longhand and skip typing it in entirely.
I finally had to start writing the endings first, and then run the rest of the story up into it. When I hit the end now, its all editing. Of course I haven't any deadlines yet, those might actually help.
Yes, I too write long hand first. The typing gives me a chance to do corrections, steer places I may have started to wander back toward topic. It lets me get things down and think about them.
