It really could go in lots of interesting directions and I would really like to know which ones it takes. Also, I have been on holiday in Venice and looking at the Byzantine architecture and Roman art has had me thinking about what the ancient cities in your novel would be like to live in. We also had a small flood in St Mark's Square -- which rather fits into your climate change theme!
