Heya! Long time no speak, I know. Hope all is well with you. Will drop you an email at some point soon. Been a bit crazy busy, which is no bad thing, but I'm playing catch-up on correspondence at the moment.
Yesterday I got into such a discussion about the book with some friends on the blacksciencefictionsociety ning. One said "Are you sure the character isn't olive-skinned?" Another said, he saw it at Barnes and Noble and convinced himself that his eyes were deceiving him. Then we got into a discussion of white authors who do black characters (badly or well) Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys: good. Some other writer: bad.
Three of them are going to read it. I posted on Southern Fire on my blog www.darkparables.blogspot.com I couldn't find a book trailer for it. And, oh woman, I know from cover art discussion. I got into quite a snit with the art director telling him I hated having an "aggressive-looking" black woman on the cover of Wind Follower. Of course, everyone loves the cover. And I had to admit I was wrong. (I hate doing that.) When I saw your website I saw one with the dark warrior on the cover...and one without. I thought..."uhm." So, yeah, one day I definitely need to hear the story of the cover of your book. Wondered about your Eastern book if it has a poc on the color. Thanks for accepting my friendship.
I saw your face and thought! Wow, what a sweet and gentle face! Then I saw your cover for Southern Fire and thought "Dang! Is that a person of color on that cover?" Woman, I am sold. Can I add you as a friend? I've never heard of your book. Now I'm gonna have to read it or do a blog on it.
Hi there stranger! So glad you made it in the end! It was a forlorn hope when I re-sent the invitation again yesterday. Hope you enjoy the network, however much time you can spend looking in & good luck with the re-decorating!
Okay, I've joined - finally - and doesn't this look fun? But the next month or so will be madly busy here as we're redecorating the whole house. So don't expect me to be too active hereabouts just yet...
