Bad luck indeed. I've currently got three colonies with laying queens, one I'm in the process of requeening (I squashed the old one yesterday), and I mean to treat for nosema as I stongly suspect an outbreak. Hopefully it'll be better next year.
Well, even if you can't get back to Cornwall for a while, at least you have stunning photos to look at. And a very exciting reason to delay your visit!
Last year was a total disaster for me. It started the previous autumn; resistant mites had arrived in earnest, and my hives were swamped with mites from other peoples' collapsing hives. I lost several, then last year I managed to build up again, but got no honey at all. So far this year it's been pretty dire, but there's some, and hopefully the warmer weather will bring an improvement.
Councils vary in their attitude to bees, but there are loads of people round the country with bees on allotments. Mine are somewhat surreptitious, but we've had a request from the nearby Botanical Gardens to move their bees onto the site. The committee are in favour as long as it's done properly, so maybe we can get the anti-bee rule changed.

We're back to Cornwall in November and I can't wait to drink in the scenery again.
Good luck with your efforts.
