Maybe I am related to Frankenstein!

I've been in love with basically two genres for more than fifty years; they being sci-fi/fantasy and detective/mystery genres. Of course, I am old enough to think sci-fi and fantasy should be lumped into one bracket (I know, I know . . . I am an old cuss. So be a little patient with me!)

Currently I've got two books out on the market. One detective and one fantasy. The fantasy novel is called Roland of the High Crags: Evil Arises. I think it is really different kind of fantasy. More personal. More tragic. It looks at the useage of magic in an entirely different light. Using magic has a cost--sometimes a severe cost, to the one summoning it. And it is a different fantasy novel in that it folds in two forms of philosophy into its pages. Chinese Taoism and Greco-Roman Stoic philosophy can be found--but found in a way to be (I hope!) in an interesting read.

My second book is called Murderous Passions. If you like a good, old fashioned hardboiled detective yarn, you might like the two homicide cops who work the crimes within.

Of course more books are coming. I hope. If (and it's a big if) I can find a publisher who actually likes my writing. We'll see

I have a short story up on Eastern Standard Crime

Howdy, 'all. It's been a while. I thought I'd let you know I have a short story called 'Justice' on Crookedwebzine. It can be found at Eastern Standard Crime.com

Take a look at it and tell me what you think.

Star Trek Rocks!

All I have to say is this; go see the newest edition of Star Trek. Take a long, hard look at the guy who plays Captain James Tiberius Kirk. Mother of God! The guy just is dead-on for the part.

But more than that. If you like a movie that seemlessly blends both wit and humor into an action-movie, this is the perfect choice. It's rare to find any kind of movie that handles wit and humor well--more rare yet for one that's and action-adventure.

I'd give it a Five-Phaser blast for a rating.

Updating web sites

They say you should regularly up date your web site. Okay, I'm looking for some art for one of my web sites (www.turnerhahnnovels.com). The problem is--as it always is--money. I can't afford a lot yet I want the art to be 'spiffy!'

Damn. For want of a horse, a kingdom was lost. For want of a dollar bill I could be the next Stephan King!

The same ole author over and over and over . . .

Do you get tired of seeing the same author being printed over, and over, and over again ad infinitum? Yeah, I know big-name authors pays for the bills. But so do they take all the available money with them when they sign contracts.

How do wannabe writers break into the market if the market is so damn small and the big-names have elbowed everyone out of the room?

Most religions and ancient philosophies seem to have only six degrees of separation, the same way people are supposed to. It's a subject I'm very much into. The similarities between the Judaic and Egyptian 'baby in bullrushes' story. The way Ba'al got turned into Beelzebub. The fact that two cultures -- Hebrew and Greek -- chose the two-serpents-around-a-stick symbol for medicine. A double-helix of all things! I could go on and on.

Sounds great. Are the Taoism and Stoicism working in conjunction, or against each other? Either would work -- I've been to Hong Kong a couple of times, and understand how flexible Eastern religions are.

I think you need a very quirky sense of humour when you're trying to write for a living. I read what you said about DAW cancelling a series for no apparent reason. What's the answer to incidents like that? I think the only sensible one is: "Who knows what goes on in the heads of publishers? Not even The Shadow knows!" (Oops, hope my publisher doesn't read this.) What are you working on at the moment, B.R.?

Hey, B.R.! I'm British, and have an ironic sense of humor. But if you can cope with that -- and it sounds like you can -- then we can be friends, sure.
