Wonderlands

I love when I go to the pile (TBR) and take something down that I end up wanting to put in my own little hall of fame. Well, most recently that was David Gemmell's Legend. I'm sure most have already read it, but it was just perfect for me. For my money, David Gemmell is heroic fantasy.

Legend is the very novel that got me hooked on Fantasy fiction, it left me mouth watering for more, since then I've read more the 600 fantasy novels and loving every minute of it. I couldn't agree with you more Peter, David Gemmell IS heroic fantasy, all of his novels have similar stories but you never get tired of reading them and ultimately fall in love with each one just a little bit. I'm just sad that there won't be able new tales of huge heroic proportions. I think these words say it all when you think of the late and great DG and all he created.

The Iron Code.

Never violate a woman, nor harm a child. Do not lie, cheat or steal. These things are for lesser men. Protect the weak against the evil strong. And never allow thoughts of gain to lead you into the pursuit of evil. Never back away from an enemy. Either fight or surrender. It is not enough to say I will not be evil. Evil must be fought wherever it is found.”

So, Fantasy Doctor have you joined our sister site (or should that be 'Heroic older brother' site!) yet? 'The David Gemmell Legend Award' (It might be that you have under a different name maybe!) Lots of Gemmell activity going on over there - we have just had the very first Award Ceremony in London... Come on over! Don't worry about being 'disloyal to Wonderlands - there's lots of cross-over between the two sites!)

No I haven't joined yet, but I've had a good look at the site. As soon as I've finished typing this I'll go over and join. Thank for the invite by the way. :D

Sword and sorcery short stories? No, not Fritz Leiber; James Enge. I just finished trying to collate my thoughts on his debut novel, Blood of Ambrose.

A vampire who isn't the hot boy in school? What an idea. How about a vampire covered in it's own waste, blazing hot with an out of control metabolism (secondary to the infection causing it's nocturnal condition) and animalistic predatory behavioral patterns? How about an extinction level contamination event for humanity? Chuck Hogan and Guillermo Del Toro have this in their recent offering, The Strain. Interesting, but only just.

A great single person POV redemption story?

Ah, FitzChilvalry!

Nope, it's actually Seyonne.

An ending ripe with heart-break and sorrow. The protagonist's last meeting with his wife, in this tale, is a thing of nightmares.
