I finished Mike Carey's "The Devil You Know". I didn't know what to make of this novel before reading it, I heard many things about Mike Carey but I didn't know his style. However, the novel offered me a plesant surprise and I really liked its main character, Felix Castor. He reminded me a lot of some of my childhood heroes (Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Inspector Maigret...) although its a different style, but such a interesting investigator.

The guest of this week is Anne Stokes. She is a British artist specialized in fantasy and gothis art and who works as a freelance illustrator for about 12 years. Among her works are the illustrations made for the Wizards of the Coast's Dungeons and Dragons rule books and miniatures. She has a weak spot for dragons which are present in many of her works.

This week's guest is the digital artist Vitaly S. Alexius. He was born in Russia, but he is currently living in Toronto, Canada. He is talented artist, who tries to develop an innovative, digital art style which he calls "Dreaminism". Some of his works are set in another Vitaly's style named "Romantically Apocalyptic". He express his talent in photography and literature (with an upcoming novel, "Chronoscape").

I finished "The Dog of the North" by Tim Stretton. The novel has some interesting ideas behind the story, but with a slow pace and rhythm. It left me with mixed feelings and although I liked some of the authors ideas, this novel was a rather unsatisfactory one for me.

I finished "Twelve" by Jasper Kent. It comes as blend between historical fiction and vampire story, but I believe that the novel is much more than just this. I find it hard to categorize this novel, but I really enjoyed it. The author does a great job with his war descriptions and the images, atmosphere and the questions it raised put me well on thoughts.

I like to relax from time to time with an action-packed novel and this time was Rebecca Levene's "Kill or Cure". I like this series of post-apocalyptic novels, "The Afterblight Chronicles", because it's fun and relaxing. So is this novel, full of action, bloodshed in an interesting setting.

I had the opportunity to make an interview with Tim Stretton, the author of "The Dog of the North".

I finished Samantha Henderson's "Heaven's Bones". I enjoyed the most of the novel, but I believe that will not appeal to every reader. I struggled for the first quarter not to put the novel aside and it's only after the first half that the things become interesting. It is a little rough and bumpy, but the novel has many interesting things.

The best read I had this year so far was Jasper Kent's novel, "Twelve". I had the opportunity now to look a little behind this wonderful blend between historical and supernatural fiction and to find new interesting things in an interview with Jasper Kent.

It has been a while, but these posts got delayed a little due to different reasons. But they are back and this week guest is the French artist, Marc Simonetti. He is very talented and made many covers for Sci-Fi and Fantasy novels (one of the latest being the cover art for the French edition of Patrick Rothfuss' "The Name of the Wind" published by Bragelonne).

I finished a Romanian SF novel, "Abatia" (The Abbey) by Dan Dobos. I also reviewed the novel to show a glimpse of the Romanian speculative fiction. I liked this novel, it has interesting concepts and ideas and Dan Dobos proves to be a talented and imaginative author. The Romanian speculative fiction needs more such novels and authors.

I finished "The Absence" by Bill Hussey. I am impressed by the works of Bill Hussey. Although I liked more his debut novel published last year, "Through a Glass, Darkly", his second novel is not far behind and reflects an improvement in the author's career. And if Bill Hussey would write more such novels I believe he will become one of the heavy names of horror fiction.
